Youth Speaks in Truro

Pupils from Richard Lander, Truro High and Truro Schools participated in the Rotary Youth Speaks event at Richard Lander School on Thursday (25th January 2024).

The students debated a variety of topics including AI - can it ever be as emotionally intelligent as a human being? to  Environmental Campaigning should focus on changing government policy rather than individual behaviours.

Fourteen students took part in five teams in both senior and intermediate categories. Truro High School won the Intermediate leg and Truro School , the Senior Competition. All of the participants will go through to the area competition which will take place in Camborne in March with a chance to go on ultimately to a national final. 

The event was organised by Cathie Shipwright of Rotary Truro Evolution Club with support from members of Evolution and other rotary clubs, friends and former teachers who acted as adjudicators, questioners and time keepers. Prize certificates were awarded by Jackie Southon, President of Rotary Evolution.

We  intend  to run further events in the future.
