We did it!...

The Rotary Club of Truro Evolution have successfully completed their mission to raise funds to support the "Toilet Twinning" charitable organisation.

Why £60 - Toilet Twinning
Our aim was to raise enough funds to twin 22 of our loos with 22 locations where sanitation and water shortages remain a huge issue. If you read the detail here, you will understand why we felt the need to support this vital project.
Our timeline for this project was thrown into question when Covid 19 hit the world, however, this crisis and the closure of our own public facilities, and the panic buying of toilet roll, put an additional emphasis on the need for people to have access to sanitary requirements.

We were delighted to have achieved our target and announce that we raised enough funds for 23 loos.

Toilet Twinning is about linking your toilet…

… with a toilet in one of the poorest places on the planet.
The Rotary Club of Truro, Evolution is aiming to twin 22 toilets in Truro area by the end of 2022.
Our "Twenty Two Toilets in Twenty Two" Truro project will reach out to all parts of the community. In March 2022, we have nineteen in place - only 3 to go!

Our "Loo Crew" is asking you to do the business!...

For only £60 you can help us twin your personal, community or public loo - any loo will do!
When you twin your toilet, you get a certificate to hang in your loo, that says where your toilet is twinned with, and it even has its GPS coordinates so you can visit your toilet twin online.

Rosemary who is one of our members has twinned her toilet with one in Malawi. This was donated by her husband John to celebrate her recent special birthday. Another boost to our project to twin 22 toilets in 2022.

So, why would you twin your toilet? The stark fact is that:
  • 2 billion people in the world don’t have a decent, hygienic toilet.
  • 1 billion people go to toilet out in the open
  • 443 million school days are lost each year through children not having access to water and sanitation

FLUSHING AWAY POVERTY, ONE TOILET AT A TIME.

Women are vulnerable to snake bites and being sexually assaulted as they squat in the grass, probably late at night, at the edge of their community – as many cultures don’t allow women and girls to go to the toilet during the day!

Ebinda lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo
She was 14 when she was attacked by a group of men as she went to the toilet one evening. Ebinda wasn’t far from home and her mum Bawili thought she would be safe, but Bawili knew instantly what had happened when Ebinda came running back crying, with bruises and scratches to her neck

MP Cherilyn Mackrory was delighted to receive her certificate from Evolution Member, Sue Bunt.  Cherilyn has twinned the toilet in her constituency office with one in Nigeria. Our club is aiming to get toilets twinned in public places. Let us know if you have any ideas in the Truro area.
