Rotary in Truro are proud to contribute to 100,000 national volunteer hours achievement

Volunteers from the Rotary Evolution Club in Truro have pledged their ongoing commitment to support those affected by the war in Ukraine, as the world marks one year since the conflict began.

Over the last 12 months, members from The Rotary Club of Truro Evolution have played their part in responding to the humanitarian crisis by donating funds towards the provision of modular housing in Moschun and arranged a collection event at Truro Sainsbury for World Rotary Day to raise funds towards the provision of Aquaboxes.

These activities have been part of Rotary’s efforts across Great Britain and Ireland, which has seen the organisation’s members give in excess of 100,000 volunteer hours and raise more than £6 million of donations in cash and kind.

This has included everything from initial emergency fundraising when the conflict first began, through to large-scale humanitarian projects providing lifesaving equipment to new-born babies and building temporary homes in destroyed Ukrainian villages. Closer to home, Rotary has also been focused on supporting displaced families who have resettled to the UK.

Jackie Southon, president of The Rotary Club of Truro Evolution said: “The one-year anniversary of the war is a day where those impacted are at the forefront of our minds. “So many millions have suffered over the last 12 months, and we’re proud to have played a part in helping those people and contributing to Rotary’s overall response to the war.

“The amount of money Rotary has raised and time our volunteers have given across the country shows the power of collective action and the incredible impact which can come from working together.

“Peace is a cornerstone of Rotary’s global mission, and while the war rages on, we continue to be committed to providing help and support wherever we can.

“We want to thank the community of Truro area for all their generous support for our activities.” To get involved in Rotary and make a difference in your community, keep checking back here at www.trurorotaryevolution.org
