The Rotary Club of Truro Evolution...relaunch!

On the 2nd July 2022, it was with great excitement that The Rotary Club of Truro Evolution,  transitioned into a club in our own right, taking on the mantle and 100 year history of The Rotary Club of Truro.

Our way of life has changed over the years and we have evolved into a new ways of doing things. Many of the members of The Rotary Club of Truro have joined us following our official launch celebrations.

However, the main objects remain the same.

Events 2021

SUEZ Have you ever wondered what happens to your household rubbish? Members of Truro Rotary Evolution visited the state of the art trip to Suez depot at St Dennis. a fascinating and informative tour that explains the cycle from start to finish with minimal emissions and clean air emitted from the two giant stacks once the process is over. A useful event to support the work of our club's Green team.

End Polio Now Campaign

Picture
Members of Truro Rotary Evolution managed to raise £300 for the "End Polio Campaign", in spite of the challenges of lockdowns. We had a sack of purple crocus bulbs, donated by one of our members, and were in discussion about what to do as a project for the autumn and winter. Realising that the bulbs were more than ready to plant, some members met up to get them planted up quickly in pots on 31st October. Little did we realise that lockdown number 2 was being announced that very day. Thankfully one of our members volunteered to host over 50 pots of crocus bulbs in her garden!

Eventually the bulbs flowered in time for World Rotary Day in February and were very much enjoyed by people out doing their exercise and queuing up for takeaway refreshments at outdoor venues and cafes in and around Truro

We had lots of positive feedback from people and a chance to highlight the link between the success of worldwide Polio Vaccination and the ongoing Covid vaccination programme. We are so pleased, that as a result of the money raised and the contribution from the Bill Gate’s Foundation, many more people will now be vaccinated against polio.

Coastal Walk in aid of Cornwall Mind

Picture
Www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rotarycluboftruroandevolution.
Our evolution club joined other Rotary Clubs to support an energetic fundraiser for Cornwall Mind. We enjoyed fabulous weather and two great days walking from Porthcothnan to Mawgan Porth and Bedruthan back to Porth, as part of the Big Rotary Coastal Path Challenge. On both occasions the delighted walkers enjoyed a fabulous cream tea at Rotarian, Caroline’s house at Porth and a swim afterwards. We have already raised over £250 but money is still coming in. Please feel free to support us through the fundraising link above.

Coffee Morning for Marie Curie

Picture
….. A few days later and a typical British summer! From a sunny Hawaiian evening to a soggy coffee morning for Marie Curie. But doing well in the virtual raffle £150 raised so far!

The Rotary International convention this year was due to be held in sunny Hawaii but has been happening virtually instead. So some Evolution members had a socially distanced Hawaiian themed evening with delicious food and drink.
Picture
The weather was also very Hawaiian on the hottest day of the year so far. One of our members put together a fantastic basket of Hawaiian themed toiletries. We are planning to raffle this with friends and family over the next week to raise money for some other local charities

Heli Belly!
Along with many others, we gave a donation to the recent "Heli Appeal" for Cornwall's Air Ambulance. Unless your eyesight is amazing, you will not find our name in the underbelly! Well done to their team for this amazing fundraising effort :)

Members get nifty and 'nitty
While we continue to meet on zoom, we have found time to support local causes through our creative talents. Some of our members are knitting muffs for those living with dementia to have something to "twiddle", which helps them to remain calm and lest restless. A twiddle muff offers a wonderful means of tactile and visual stimulation.

"Flushing away poverty, one day at a time".
At the beginning of March we had an interesting presentation on "Toilet Twinning" and officially launched our plan to twin 20 toilets in Truro over 2020 and become a toilet twinning town.

We were therefore delighted to present certificates for our first three toilets to the Dean of Truro Cathedral during the last Sunday morning service before the Covid 19 lockdown, which has rather delayed our plans.

The certificates will be on display in the loos in the Chapter house. Do pop in and see them when you can.

Downtown Abbey - Gala Event

Sunday 15th September 2019  -

In aid of Parkinson's UK

Dressed appropriately, we attended a fabulous Charity Gala Reception with a screening of Downton Abbey, the full length film. Featuring the original principle cast from the acclaimed television series, we enjoyed the cinematic event of the year. The television series Downton Abbey followed the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who worked for them at the turn of the 20th century in an Edwardian English country home.

A perfect way to fundraise for a great cause!
